Children may soon be coloring in images of handguns inside coloring books the City Council approved Tuesday night for Racine Police Department officers to use in gun safety training.
News that the coloring books, donated by the National Rifle Association, might be making their way into Racine schools has made national news over the past week.
Racine Alderman Pete Karas led the charge against the coloring books, saying images of handguns in the NRA's Eddie Eagle coloring books wouldn't be adequate training to keep children safe.
After 45 minutes of debate, the council voted 8-to-7 to approve use of the coloring books, which feature the Eddie Eagle character and are intended to teach gun safety.
Because you never know what trivial bit of information may ultimately prove to be vitally important.
