But is it metal?

Someday, I'm going to have to set aside several hours to read this:

Heavy metal music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And follow all the subgenre links.

Just ran into a subgenre called "power ambient" which kind of blows my mind.

Very strange, how I like this music more now than I did as a youngster.

  1. Heavy metal has definitely grown over the decades. I remember once, back in the very early 1980s when the New Wave of British Heavy Metal was just getting started, some guy I was having a conversation with said that metal was as much a fad as disco. He said Judas Priest and Kiss would go the way of KC and the Sunshine Band and would just be seen as musical curiosities in the future. Obviously, he was wrong.

I'm glad, too. I love metal. But not all of the sub-genres. Some of those can get pretty weird.

You're not kidding. As much as my tastes have broadened I just don't see me ever getting into death metal or black metal. I love me some thrash, speed and prog-metal, though.
