A work picture

For people from San Antonio, this needs no explanation.  For the rest of you, there used to be this horrific intersection of state highway 281 with Loop 1604.  It was two major highways that came together with just a plain old stoplight intersection--a holdover from the days when people were still getting used to horseless carriages.  A while back they began construction to turn this into an actual interstate highway-style interchange, and have been progressing remarkably fast (the usual S.A. rule of travel is:  the shortest distance between two points is under construction).  People drive through here now just for the sheer exhilaration of not having to sit in line at a stoplight for 35 minutes.  I took this photo through my work truck's window from the very top of the interchange today.  Just don't tell anyone I was taking pictures while driving.

I know I've posted a photo of this thing before, but I just had to say that every time I walk by here, Geronimo looks a little more perplexed, and Hecate looks a little more Gorgo Mormo-ish.

A street lamp

Here's a work pic that I took a couple of weeks ago.  I thought it turned out fairly well for a phone shot, so I also put it on my photo blog.  I can't say that "like" is the correct word, but I think it wouldn't be inaccurate to say that I was drawn to the conflict between the paved street, the electric lamp post, and the otherwise brushy and untamed look of the surroundings.

It just now occurred to me that I have never driven up and looked over the top of that hill.  I know my mental illusion of this scene would be destroyed if I did, because I would probably be able to see Bass Pro Shops in the distance.  This is from a part of The Dominion that has not been fully "developed."

Here's a paint job I like

Today I did a route that looked only vaguely familiar to me, until I saw this and remembered it.  I do this route maybe once a year, a cycle 10 in the Thousand Oaks/Jones-Maltsberger area.

I'm pretty sure this is a "vintage" RV.  It's a GMC and I don't think I've ever seen any other RV with a "GMC" on the front grill.  Parked directly behind this one--you can't see it from this angle--is a gleaming silver Airstream, which is probably also getting to be a classic.

It seems that sometime during the past month, since the last time I did this route, Geronimo has become a prominent "civil rights" figure.  Okay then.

Another found knife

Here's another knife that I found just today, and it looks like it should be a decent knife once I get it cleaned up.

This is the Buck Juno, which lists for only $12 on their website, so it isn't one of their high-end knives.  However, it seems to be solidly put together and once that blade locks in place, there is absolutely no wobble.  It feels fixed, that's how solid the lock is.  Unfortunately it was left lying in the street for the last couple of days during all the rain, so it got some rust on it.  I was doing a driving route today (in our parlance, a "motor") so I had all my stuff with me in my truck.  The first thing I did was wipe it down with a heavy-duty paper towel, then I hosed it down thoroughly with WD-40, wiped it all off again, then gave it another good WD-40 dousing, then wrapped it up in the paper towel so I wouldn't get drippage all over the inside of my truck and brought it home.

I picked up some steel wool at H.E.B. on the way home and once I get it cleaned up good I'll post some new pix.

One thing that I immediately noticed about this knife, as you can see, is that it looks exactly the same on both sides.  This is a truly ambidextrous pocket knife, which gives it several bonus points on my own personal scale of knife grading.

So there I was...

Doing my job, minding my own business on a quiet day in a quiet neighborhood with no packs of vicious dogs roaming the streets, no panhandlers, no reverse vampires that can come out in the daytime, not much traffic to speak of, no pink cars....YAAAUUUGGGHHH!!!

I promise I don't go out looking for these things. They're everywhere.

A thing I found

I found this lying in the street yesterday, so I brought it home to take pictures of it.

I assume it's a key ring, but when I first saw it from a distance I thought it was a fishing lure.

The colors in these two shots aren't the same because I was moving and the angle of the sunlight was changing.  Neither is entirely accurate to the actual hue of this monstrosity, and for that you should be grateful.

A couple of work pix

I had my regular cycle 15 today (Sunset Station).  I had seen this one before, I think its owner drives it to work a lot, but not always.  I don't usually get all gushy over automobiles, but wow this is a cool truck.

And the train.  Someday I'd like to get some shots of this with a real camera.

Shopping carts in the wild

Wild shopping carts continue to thrive even in the barren wastelands of Naco-Perrin.  Here we see a pair of common steel carts engaging in their mating ritual, while a rarely-seen yellow cart keeps watch from a safe distance.

My curiosity is killing me

I am just dying to know what make of car is being kept underneath this cover.  Aren't you?
