Opera: The Browser

Not the music.

Since Firefox 4.x stopped working, I tried Chrome. Chrome does work, which sets it apart from FF, but it works very slowly and stodgily. So...I'm giving Opera a shot. So far it's working much, much better than Chrome.

I no longer even have Firefox on my computer. I've been doing some Googling and have discovered that I'm not the only one who is having problems with it. Someone let me know if Firefox ever goes back to not sucking.

Been a little sick since yesterday. One of those head colds that comes on extremely fast. Went from feeling just fine yesterday noon to feeling somebody-please-kill-me by 4:00 PM. Feeling better today but still have sinus swelling, although oddly, no congestion. Don't feel nearly as dead tired today. Only somewhat dead tired.

I'm still working on the big playlist, and am now up to the "m's" with Marillion.

I want to take a minute to point out a pretty good sampler that I listened to recently. Link below. A collection of pop & ambient by various artists. I like it.

  1. I had Opera on our old computer (with Windows98) that I thought worked pretty good, tho I recall that my ex wasn't particularly impressed by it. When we got our new computer, we used Firefox almost exclusively, and I still use it today, without any problems. (At least, no problems that I can point to FF being the cause of.)

  2. Which FF was it? I'm doing fine with mt 3.16.whatevar...
I tried Opera, but didn't like the way it didn't let me customize my toolbars--just like Explorer doesn't.

  3. Alan,

A probably configured Opera is, bar-none, the fastest and most secure browser you can use. FF, Chrome, and past three IE's are almost direct rip off or copied what Opera has been doing for years. Turn everything off, Plug-Ins, Javascript, Cookies, Refererers, Geolocation, etc and only when neccesary- so learn to use the F12 key after setting under preferences. Not saying that Opera cannot be improved, as I do think some things can be, but as it stands, none better (unlike Chrome, that does not turn off Google tracking, even when set to, Opera does not). Spend some time learning, what and how it works and you will not go back to anything else for main daily use.

  4. I just downloaded Opera 11.11 and have been using it on and off today. Very impressed so far although I'm am not really excited about the bookmarks (I probably need to mess with it) and for some reason when I went to IMDB it repeatedly died on me. No other problems, just IMDB. I'm already pretty happy with it. I've been using Firefox for quite a while and Opera seems better.

    Thanks for the tip!
